Xinchang Old Town (新场古镇) has a history of about eight centuries. Today it is known for is large number of houses from the Ming (roughly 1400~1600) and Qing (about 1600~1900) dynasties. The town came to fame and riches as merchants traded salt here.
This highlight marks the northern, more busy, part of the old street. It continues further south - and if you feel like walking a little further, extend it to the Nanshan Temple at the southern end of the old town.
