Swat is a stunning valley and a famous tourist destination located in the upper north region of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. Swat is best known as the Switzerland of the east and is commonly known as “Paradise on the Earth” for its spectacular natural beauty and diverse wildlife.
Until 1969 Swat remained an affluent and independent sovereign state. During the British empire’s rule of the Indian subcontinent between 1858 and 1947, Swat remained free and independent. The State of Swat willingly merged with Pakistan on 14 October 1969.
