It is a small town with traditional popular architecture, surrounded by almond groves and located between the Sierra de los Filabres and Sierra Alhamilla mountains. Part of the municipal area is included in the Sierra de Alhamilla Natural Park, a site of great scenic and ecological interest due to its abundant vegetation.

Turrillas is a town in the Los Filabres - Tabernas region, in the province of Almería. It is also known as the viewpoint of the Sierra de Alhamilla, since it offers magnificent views of the north face of this mountain range.

Historically, its origin is linked to that of Níjar, since it belonged to the same "taha" (administrative division). After the uprising of the Alpujarras in the 16th century and the Christian reconquest, it remained uninhabited, later being populated by new inhabitants from Murcia.
