It was donated to the city of Bochum in 1979 and has since had its home in front of Bochum City Hall. It is one of the oldest surviving cast steel bells and, with a diameter of 3.13 meters and a weight of 15 tons, is one of the largest ever made. A bell of superlatives!

The large bell was originally cast by the Bochum Association for the 1867 World Exhibition and was rung at the opening. It has a diameter of 3.13 meters and weighs 15,000 kilograms. Her clapper, a steel ball hanging from four ropes, has disappeared since the move to the town hall. But also due to damage from the Second World War, the bell can no longer ring.
