The supposed forest lodge is actually a private hunting lodge. It was built in 1953 according to designs by Paul Schneider-Esleben and is now a listed building. The surrounding forest is littered with the remains of the OKH bunker. Protected by a wild fence, rhododendrons grew into real trees. Next to it you can see the tombstone of the builder Franz Haniel

There are no concrete entry bans anywhere. State Forestry Act §2 still applies here, according to which you can roam through private forests on foot and cycle through them on the paths.

This forester's lodge is not spectacular, if not for the history. It belongs to the entrepreneurial Haniel family, one of the 10 richest entrepreneurial families in Germany (as of 2015, s.Wikipedia). In 1940, the commander-in-chief of the army, Colonel-General Walther von Brauchitsch, had his quarters here at the beginning of the western campaign. The Forsthausareal is not accessible, as it is owned by the Haniel Forestry Administration (Wikipedia).

On this bike tour, the principle is: The way is the goal. When you reach the forest house Hülloch, it is almost only downhill. The first half of the Arloffer "road" is a gravel forest road, the second half is a beautiful paved forest road. Here you have a great descent.
