There are no documents about the origins of the church in Peißen, dedicated to St. Wenzel.
So we have to refer to competent historians and experts.
It is assumed that around 950 the tower of the church was built as a defense and watchtower. Around 1200 the current church was added to the tower.
Peißen sound arcadesWhen the church was built, the tower was raised, and its actual defense function was transformed into a bell-carrying function.
The raised upper part of the tower has Romanesque buds and cube capitals on the sound arcades.
