L'Aquila is the capital of Abruzzo and has 69,508 inhabitants. It is located in the center of the Aquila basin, along the Aterno river and on the slopes of the Gran Sasso.
It is located in a seismic area, in fact it has been hit by numerous earthquakes: 1315, 1461, 1703 and 2009. The last of which is sadly remembered among the most intense in Italy, had a magnitude of 6.3.
