There is no doubt that Iberians and Romans inhabited these lands and must have occupied and fortified this strategic location. In the 8th century, the site was an Arab defensive tower, built by the Berber tribe of the Miknasa, who gave the city its name. The current toponym Mequinenza is probably evident from the name. Since then, the strategically located fortress has been the center of many battles and conquests. It is now owned by a foundation and can only be visited by appointment

You are on the way to Mequinenza Castle, a Gothic castle-palace from the late 14th and early 15th centuries located on a hill at 185 meters above sea level, being a strategic place that offers a spectacular panoramic view of the confluence of the waters of the Segre, Cinca and Ebro rivers. Currently, the castle and its surroundings are private property of the Endesa Foundation.

We are on our way to the Castle of Mequinenza, a Gothic castle-palace from the late 14th and early 15th centuries located on a hill at an altitude of 185 meters, being a strategic place that offers a spectacular panoramic view of the confluence of the waters of the Segre rivers. , Cinca and Ebro. Currently, the Castle and its surroundings are private property of the Endesa Foundation. (that is why we will not be able to approach with the bicycle)
