The idea to build a church here started in the year 1969 in the chapel of the current Río Verde Institute. It was not until 1972 that work began on the current church and on August 7, 1976, the bishop of the diocese blessed this parish church and consecrated the altar during the first Eucharistic celebration.

In the avenue of the same name and at the foot of the hermitage built in the 18th century is the church of Santo Cristo del Calvario, consecrated in 1976. Place of worship that contains beautiful icons inside and is equipped with original and colorful stained glass windows; modern, air-conditioned building that forms a complex of great beauty where all visitors can find peace and admire various works of art.
