In 1880, Karl Eckoldt from Stadtilm donated a fountain to the town of Stadtilm, which was inscribed with the words "To our dear father town" after he was made an honorary citizen in 1881. With this act, he wanted to express his love and affection for Stadtilm.
In 2008, the Eckoldt fountain, which had been stored with a fountain builder since around 1990, was reinstalled and can now be found in the southern half of the market square.
