Izamal, the city of three cultures, combines the evidence of Indian culture with the pyramid Kinich-Kakmó and Spanish culture with the monastery of San Antonio de Padua, as well as modern Mexico. Because of the predominantly yellow painted structures Izamal is also called the "yellow city". The traditional market in the main square next to the monastery intensify the relaxed fair of the city.
