Mother and child wave to the father as he leaves Waalwijk station for the big city.

Presented as a gift to the municipality of Waalwijk on March 24, 2014 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Waalwijk Lions Club.

The bronze sculpture was created by Astrid Koppen from Gorssel.

The artwork was unveiled on 25 March 2014 by Mayor Nol Kleijngeld on the site of the former train station. It depicts a mother and child waving goodbye to their husband and father at the station. Father takes the train to sell shoes in the big city. The statue is a lasting reminder of Waalwijk's past with the shoe and leather industry.
