The Elephant Gate at the entrance to Taling Ngam was built in 1979 at the urging of the chief monk of the temple there. The aim of the construction project was to attract more visitors to the small village and its temple. It is not known whether the campaign was crowned with lasting success.

Well-known landmark in southern Samui. Built for "promotional reasons", the gate was once meant to attract more visitors to nearby Taling Ngam, but is now slowly decaying..... too bad.
