A visit to the small island is interesting and relaxing! The ferry from Mao costs 10 euros (as of 09.23) and leaves every hour at 15 from Mao and 45 from the island. You can wander around, look at the old hospital or sit comfortably in the garden of the restaurant. Recommended!

“The Bloody Island”, as the island was called by the British, can only be reached by boat. It is therefore NOT suitable as a stopover on an extended hike (unless you can walk on water).

There are two architecturally interesting sites on the island: the remains of the early Christian basilica, from which, among other things, a mosaic is kept in the Museum of Menorca, and the former military hospital. The rest here is entertainment designed for tourists.

The paths are generally easy and suitable for a leisurely stroll, allowing you to enjoy the historical sites and natural surroundings.

Is Illa del Rei suitable for families with children?

Yes, Illa del Rei can be a great family-friendly destination. Children might enjoy exploring the old hospital buildings, the outdoor sculpture trail at Hauser & Wirth, and spotting the unique Lilford's wall lizards. How do I get to Illa del Rei, and where do the boats depart from?

Entry to the historical hospital and the Hauser & Wirth Art Centre is typically included or managed upon arrival. However, specific exhibitions or guided tours might have separate fees, so it's good to check their official websites if you plan to attend something specific.

What is the best time of year to visit Illa del Rei to avoid crowds?

To avoid the largest crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (April-May or September-October). While some paths around the Hauser & Wirth Art Centre and parts of the hospital may be accessible, other areas, particularly the older ruins or uneven terrain, might not be.
