Molen De Grote Geert, also known as De Geert popularly, is a historic windmill located in the picturesque village of Nieuwolda. This beautiful mill is an important cultural heritage and a recognizable symbol of the region.
De Grote Geert is a scaffolding mill, which means that the mill stands on a raised platform, called the stelling. This construction makes it possible to make the blades of the mill rotate better and to make optimal use of the wind for grinding grain.

The Kantens mill is located on the Boterdiep. In this way, grain could easily be supplied for grinding. The mill has withstood many storms and decay and was therefore also called 'd'Olle Strieder' (Gronings for "the old warrior").
