The castle, now called Maresca Castle, was the residence of the Benedictines of the Abbey of Montecassino from 1100. Then various noble families followed in the fiefdom, including the Sforzas, the Guevaras and finally the Marescas.

The baronial castle was built in the 11th century. It appears to be the oldest structure in the country built in full Frederick / Swabian domination.

It is the oldest building in the town of Serracapriola, today the castle is owned by Maresca.
