Cykling

The Burgmannen (castle guards), members of the lower nobility and officials of the local government, were responsible for protecting the castle and the estate. They lived in the Burgmannenhaus (castle guard house), renovated in 1589. It was the first customs collection point in Steinau.
Today, the Burgmannenhaus Hotel with its Wilder Speisekammer (wild food chamber) is located here.

According to the chronicle, the Burgmannenhaus was built in 1589 on the foundations and vaulted cellar of another house that no longer exists.
It is therefore one of the oldest buildings in Steinau and served as a customs station and as accommodation for the so-called Burgmannen on the old trade route from Frankfurt to Leipzig." Source: homepage Burgmannenhaus
Today it is used as a historic hotel, on the ground floor is the "Wild Pantry", a shop with home-made products, mainly game.
