During the Second World War, numerous hidden bunkers of the German Wehrmacht were bombed by the Allies in this forest. Contemporary witnesses such as the numerous bomb craters and ammunition bunkers that have since been recaptured by nature can still be found here.
As a reminder of this time, this 5 hundredweight bomb exhibited here can be found at the side of the road.
