The Witches' Tower (actually: Hessenturm) from the 14th century was part of Bad Homburg's city fortifications. The tower that remains today is a reconstruction that was built at the beginning of the 19th century in connection with the construction of the
Ritter-von-Marx Bridge. The bridge, built between 1903 and 1905, spans the old town. The tower and a corresponding "bridge keeper's house" closed off the castle square and created an entrance to the city center.
