The battle, which took place on May 26, 1944, is one of the largest and bloodiest guerrilla fights in Kashubia and Pomerania. The obelisk consists of 4 granite blocks stacked on top of each other. They are engraved with the symbol of the Pomeranian Griffin, the State Coat of Arms and the coat of arms of Kościerzyna, as well as the names of fallen partisans and the names of the places where the guerrilla fights took place.

About 60 partisans of the Secret Military Organization "Gryf Pomorski", along with units of the Home Army, were surprised and besieged by the motorized units of the 44th SS Division (about 1,000 soldiers), many times outnumbering them. Thanks to bravery and incredible bravery, a group of partisans managed to break through the German troops from the siege ring after several hours of fighting and get out of the ambush.
