The Magna Carta Memorial at Runnymede is a profoundly significant monument located in a historic water-meadow alongside the River Thames in Surrey, England. Situated near Windsor, approximately 20 miles west of central London, this site commemorates the sealing of the Magna Carta in 1215, a pivotal moment in the history of democracy and human rights. Runnymede is noted for being the site of the sealing of one of the most famous documents in history. There is a memorial just across the field to this event back on the 15th June 1215, when King John, confronted by 40 rebellious barons, appended his seal to this famous parchment. You can wheel your bike across the field to have a look if need be. If not, there are other memorials to liberty dotted hereabouts too, most notably to JFK, and the allied air forces of the second world war.

This is the island where the Barons arranged to meet king John to “convince” him to sign the Magna Carta. To protect the rights of people in 1215. Curious that the US paid for the construction of this memorial.
