The Moorish Kiosk is the vibrant heart of the Santa María la Ribera neighborhood. This late 19th-century architectural gem stands out for its intricate Neo-Mudéjar style, composed entirely of wrought iron with filigree details that evoke its Arab heritage.
Originally designed by engineer José Ramón Ibarrola for the Mexican Pavilion at the New Orleans World's Fair (1884), the kiosk is a completely demountable structure. After a stint in St. Louis, Missouri, it arrived at the Alameda Central and finally, in 1910, at its current location, becoming an unparalleled historical icon.
