The Hobokense Polder owes its name to the former polder area that stretched along the banks of the Scheldt: low-lying land that was regularly flooded and was cultivated by modest farmers. Since the embankments, which were carried out from the 1960s onwards, that area has permanently disappeared. A new landscape has emerged, a landscape that is still constantly changing due to the rapid evolution of flora and fauna.

The Hobokense Polder lies between the Scheldt, Hoboken and industry: the largest chunk of nature in Antwerp City. Nature was given free rein here and a valuable and beautiful nature reserve was created, with a great variety of landscapes and an enormous wealth of plant species. More than 500 different plants and 360 different mushrooms find their home here. In late spring, orchids steal the show and you can discover the forest and bee orchids among the grass.
