The current structure dates back to an 11th-century predecessor castle belonging to the Lords of Gosheim (Gochsen). From 1334 onward, this castle was jointly owned by the Lords of Gemmingen, the Lords of Beutingen, the Greck von Kochendorf, the Lords of Aschhausen, the Lords of Talheim, and the Lords of Weinsberg.
