The legend of the Holy Crucifix of Auricarro
A war, a destroyed castle, a surviving church and a miraculous find. These are the ingredients of a legendary story that distinguishes Palo del Colle: that of the Santissimo Crocifisso di Auricarro. Because the patron saint of the town to the south-west is not a saint or a martyr, but a wooden relic that takes its name from the district of the town where it was found centuries ago. Precisely, Auricarro: an ancient village protagonist of a severe conflict that led to its destruction in 1349
