A swing well or turning well is a water well with a wooden structure in which a pulley or winch mechanism is attached to extract water from the ground above. This well was the most important place in the village because water is the source of all life. In times gone by, when there was no radio or television, world news and local gossip were also shared at this source. You always got first-hand news at the source.
