In 1872 the library was rebuilt after another in the center of Stasbourgh was destroyed in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Today the library is said to house over 3 million media. It is the 2nd largest in France next to Paris. It also has the function of a university library.

The National Library is also located on the beautiful Kaiserplatz. It is one of the legacies of the Prussians and is the second largest library in France after Paris, with its more than 3 million media.
The building also has a lot to offer architecturally. Dominant yet delicate, the gently sloping spiral staircase in the foyer connects the individual floors of the library. The stairs are supported by steel cables, while the light from the dome shines through to the ground floor.
