    The circular trail around the Kirchensee lake offers a chance to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The terrestrial biosphere describes the space on planet Earth in which life exists: this space, together with all the terrestrial organisms and their abiotic environment, and the interactions between living organisms and their abiotic environment.

    The Schaalsee basin was created as a subglacial tunnel valley system during the Frankfurt ice advance. The Strangen is on the western edge of the resulting hollow shape, as is the 8.5 m deep Kirchensee, which is a former bay of the Schaalsee. The eponymous peninsula "Strangen" and an artificial dam to the south separate the Kirchensee from the Schaalsee. To the west of the peninsula, extensive bog formations have developed on shallows. Due to the immediate border location, the area was inaccessible for many years. Today it is part of the "Green Belt".
