When Archbishop Siegfried II of Mainz founded the new city in 1223, he presumably began a church building following the custom of his time. The first written record dates from 1230. The patron saint of the building, also known as the Neustädter Kirche, is Ägidius and Jacobus as co-patron. schuster-heiligenstadt.de/sehenswuerdigkeiten.html
