Campi Salentina is located in a depression of the plain of Lecce, a position that has made the area particularly rich in water and therefore ideal for different types of crops. In the surroundings there are numerous olive groves, vineyards, fields of sunflowers and tobacco. Like other towns in the area, the origins of Campi Salentina are lost in the Bronze Age and since then the center has always been inhabited. In the thirteenth century the emperor Frederick II of Swabia had a castle built, of which unfortunately no evidence remains, which he used as a summer residence.
