At the beginning of the 15th century, St. Mary's Church was built in place of a fieldstone church. The tower of St. Mary's Church burned down in 1682 due to a lightning strike and was rebuilt by 1692. In 1714, a new baroque pulpit was installed and in 1734 the large Wagner organ.
Since 1994, St. Mary's Church, which was destroyed in the war, has been rebuilt as a European project in German-Polish cooperation.
After the death of John Paul II, his monument was inaugurated next to St. Mary's Church.

A clearly visible sign of Polish-German cooperation is the renovation of the Gothic brick church of St. Marien with the soaring tower. It continues to this day.

The town church was built from the 13th to the 15th century. In 1843 there was a construction disaster in which part of the tower collapsed. It was replaced by a 102.6 meter high tower. In 1945 the church, like most of the city, was largely destroyed. The church ruins were hardly secured in the period that followed, since 1990 the church has been reconstructed. St. Mary's Church in Chojna is a former parish church and one of the largest Gothic churches in Poland.
