Marco Spazzi from Lanzo, Val d'Intelvi (I) built the three-aisled church in place of a small wooden church between 1579 and 1588. In the 1880s, renovations were carried out to give it a pseudo-Gothic appearance. This included raising the tower to 70 metres.
