The Britzer connecting canal is a class IV federal waterway with restrictions in Berlin and legally belongs to the Teltow Canal.

Until December 18, 1994 it was called Britzer Zweigkanal.[2] The waterway is a shortcut for shipping from the Teltow Canal directly to the Spree-Oder waterway (Treptower Spree) and to the ports in the city center area. The canal is 3.39 kilometers[3] long and was built between 1900 and 1906 - at the same time as the Teltow Canal.
