It has a very irregular shape, consisting of a large body of water in the south, which branches into three narrow arms, and a large bay to the north. The lake has a maximum width of approximately 300 m and a maximum length of approximately 600 m.
The Överdiek drains via the Mühlenau into the Hemmelsdorfer See to the southeast.
It is used as a fishing lake.
