The 800-year-old brick church in Zarpen is a special landmark of the town and one of the most important buildings in the district. In the west tower, which is as wide as the ship, with an eight-sided tent roof from 1604, there is a bell from 1464, which is decorated with an inscription.
The town of Zarpen looks back on around 1,100 years of important history. Zarpen exercised Lübeck city rights up until the 15th century.

In the center of the village of Zarpen is the high medieval brick church. It was started in 1221 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the district of Stormarn.
