In 1867, the Central Commission for Rhine Shipping ordered that marker stones, so-called myriameter stones, be placed to mark the survey results.
The Royal Saxon State Railways also used myriameter stones to station their railway lines. The specimens on the Windbergbahn near Dresden, the Wilkau-Hasslau-Carlsfeld narrow-gauge railway and the Gera-Weischnitz line are still preserved today.
Myriad is ancient Greek and means 10000. (10km)
