The three-aisled Romanesque pillar basilica of St. Briktius is dated to the 12th century, the oldest documented mention of the church is a document of the Pope Honorius III. from 1223, in which this confirmed the possession of the church and the Fronhof zu Oekoven to the Cologne monastery of St. Gereon. In 1287, Oekoven was first referred to as a parochy.

The impression of the interior is particularly marked by the historicist murals of the artist Matthias Goebbels, which were created during the restoration in the 19th century. In addition to vegetable ornaments, on the ceiling there are depictions of the life of Christ and a majesty in the apse. Likewise, the historicist equipment is largely preserved. The choir stalls, the altars, the baptismal font, the organ and the candelabrum date back to the time of restoration. From the older equipment of St. Briktius only a ciborium from the year 1791 was preserved.
