The knight's stone is reminiscent of the earlier Holztrift. The wood was pulled down from a collecting point further up at the donkey grinding house by means of a donkey through a lane / chute, in order to then throw the wood into the Wieslauter for further transport. The donkey grinding house served as a resting place. It remains unclear whether the aisle is a natural occurrence or whether it was created by human hands to enable the drift.
There is a mistake in the inscription!
Instead of Eselsschleif, it says “Eselsscheif” without an “l” on the stone.

The driftwood was dragged down a slide by donkeys into the Wieslautertal/Lautertal and drifted to the lumberyard, see Ritterstein 1, and further on the Lauter.
