Kortgene completely disappeared in the waves during a flood in the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century, the village was reclaimed and a church was built. Only the church tower was preserved during the floods. The 15th-century church tower is therefore the oldest monument on Noord-Beveland.

Kortgene, in the vernacular Kortjeen, was the only place on Noord-Beveland the city rights received and is thus actually a so-called "Smalstad". It is a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts.

Kortgene sank in a flood disaster in the 16th century in the floods. At the end of the 17th century, the village was repopulated and got a new church, because during the flood, only the church tower was preserved. This church tower from the 15th century is therefore the oldest monument on Noord-Beveland.
