The deepest (1-2 m deep) parts of the marsh beds are constantly covered by water, and there are marshy meadows periodically covered with water in many places. In the XIX. As a result of the river regulations of the middle of the 19th century, the floods were delayed, and the once rich swamp world shrank to a fraction. Rescuing and reviving the remains of the swamp system became one of the first and most urgent tasks of the emerging Hortobágy National Park.
