The Leipzig old Bach monument stands in the green areas on Dittrichring, near the Thomaskirche, and is the world's oldest monument to Johann Sebastian Bach. Donated by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, it was inaugurated in 1843. The designs come from Eduard Bendemann, Ernst Rietschel and Julius Hübner. (Source: Wikipedia)

The memorial stone was erected opposite St. Thomas Church and the former cantor's residence in the St. Thomas School. The monument is in the form of a tabernacle, standing on a clustered column. Above the slender, twisted columns, we see a housing.
The uppermost element is a stone finial in the Gothic style.
The bust of the composer is set into the housing on the north side.
