Take a detour through the streets Normandielaan, Rubenslaan, Jordaenslaan, Tenierslaan and go around the park "La Potinière". The villas in the Concession District in De Haan resemble dollhouses, small castles with turrets and bay windows, the facades decorated with half-timbering or the name of the house.

In 1889, none other than King Leopold II granted the permit, the "concession", for the construction of the district and stipulated that the builders could not exceed a certain height, that their houses were surrounded by gardens and built in the Anglo-Norman architectural style.

Here one feels transported back to the time of the Belle Époque, when it was a good thing to drive to the "summer resort" to the coast. If you roam the Concessie district in De Haan, you will find well-kept white villas and greenery. There are no skyscrapers, all buildings in the area have a maximum of only three floors. The architectural style is Anglo-Norman with partly richly decorated facades. In 1933 Albert Einstein lived for six months in the "Villa Savoyarde" in the Shakespearelaan after fleeing Germany and before emigrating to the United States.
