In 1958 a fur animal farm was established in Wiartel as an auxiliary farm of the State Fisheries Farm; in 1960 it obtained the status of an independent farm. Mainly several types of mink were bred there, as well as blue foxes and European beavers. In the years 1963-1966 the farm obtained the highest average quality of hides among state-owned and private farms in Poland. Unfortunately, the American mink escaped from the farm and disturbed the local forest ecosystem. The farm collapsed in the early 1990s. Since then, the village has turned to tourism again.
