The current monument is the fourth one standing on the current square. Heroes (after the monuments of Emperor Wilhelm I, Marshal von Hindenburg and - after the war - the Monument of Gratitude to Soviet Soldiers. The current monument was erected in 1965 as a monument to the Brotherhood in Arms. In the early 1990s, symbols associated with the Soviet army were blurred and the name was changed to "To the Heroes World War II"
