Today, the Basel City Hall is mainly used as a meeting place of the Grand Council (Legislative) and the Government Council (Executive). In addition, the town hall houses offices of the State Chancellery, the Parliamentary Service and parts of the Presidential Department. The Front Council Room, now the Government Council Chamber, is furnished with a late-Gothic beetle and a magnificent Renaissance-style door court by Franz Pergo.
