Under the hill are traces of the St. John's Chapel, built by traders in the 13th century. This is where families from a medieval fishing village gathered for worship. After the Reformation in the 16th century, the chapel fell into disrepair. In the 1780s, the remains of the chapel were used in the construction of the Lange Jan lighthouse.

Interesting place, but "ruins" may be overstatement; what is left is a knoll, a cross and a model of the chapel.
