The windmill dates back to 1708 and was built to pump water from the Gemeenschapspolder.
The mill was formerly called the Gemeenschapsmolen (Gemeenschaps Mill); today it is called the Gaasper Mill.
This is one of the windmills still in use for pumping water.
The mill is not open to the public, as it is also a private residence.

Historic public water pumping station built in 1707 and restored in 2003. It is one of the oldest working polder mills in the Amsterdam area. The Gaaspermolen houses the community polder pumping station. A pumping station ensures that the water in a polder stays at the right level. It carries the water from the ditches to the polder outlet, in this case the Gaasp. The pumping station in the Gaaspermolen is powered by wind or electricity. Source: gaaspermolen.nl
