El Castillo de Bosque is a 662-meter peak belonging to the list of 100 peaks of the FEEC.
Three hundred meters before reaching the top we will turn left along a path where we will find a small climb of about four meters equipped with two ropes. The rest of the journey to the top is not difficult.

It is a rounded summit located within the Serra de l'Obac, with a rather curious place name that refers to a castle, probably due to its raised orography, and to some bushes (male goats), which were once quite common in the park.

The trail has two steps equipped with strings and just after the second it has a delicate and airy step that is unmatched.

    Ofte stillede spørgsmål

What is the typical hiking difficulty for Castell de Bocs (661 m), especially the summit approach?

Castell de Bocs is generally considered a moderate to challenging hike. While much of the trail is manageable, the final ascent to the summit involves some technical sections. Hikers will encounter a short channel equipped with ropes, and a more vertical five-meter stretch also has ropes. Just after the second equipped section, there's a delicate and exposed step on bare rock that requires caution, particularly if wet. This section is unequipped and can cause vertigo for some.

Are there any specific safety considerations for the summit of Castell de Bocs?

Yes, safety is important, especially on the final approach. The trail includes sections of bare rock with significant drops, and a delicate, exposed step after the equipped ropes. It's crucial to exercise caution, particularly if the rock is wet, as this can increase the difficulty. Good hiking footwear with excellent grip is highly recommended. The ascent involves some easy climbing (IIIº difficulty) in parts.

Is Castell de Bocs (661 m) suitable for families or beginner hikers?

While the natural park offers various trails, the direct ascent to the summit of Castell de Bocs is generally not recommended for young children or beginner hikers due to the technical sections involving ropes and exposed rock. There are easier, family-friendly walks within the wider Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park that offer beautiful scenery without the summit's specific challenges.

Can I bring my dog to Castell de Bocs (661 m)?

The Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park generally allows dogs, but the specific ascent to Castell de Bocs with its equipped ropes and exposed sections might be challenging or unsafe for many dogs, especially larger breeds or those not accustomed to scrambling. It's advisable to consider your dog's agility and comfort with heights before attempting the summit. Many other trails in the park are more suitable for hiking with dogs.

What are the parking options for accessing the Castell de Bocs (661 m) trailhead?

Access to Castell de Bocs is typically via the Camí dels Quatre Termes. Parking availability can vary, but it's generally recommended to arrive early, especially on weekends or during peak seasons, as parking areas near popular trailheads in natural parks can fill up quickly. Specific parking spots are often found along access roads leading to the park's trail networks.

Are there any public transport options to reach the Castell de Bocs (661 m) trailhead?

Public transport options directly to the trailhead of Castell de Bocs are limited, as it is located within a natural park. The nearest municipality is Rellinars. Visitors typically drive to access the various trailheads within the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park. Checking local bus routes to Rellinars and then planning for a taxi or a longer walk to the trailhead would be necessary.

What unique natural features can be observed around Castell de Bocs (661 m)?

Castell de Bocs is renowned for its distinctive geological formation. It is primarily formed by conglomerates, resulting in a characteristic relief with red and argillaceous conglomerate cliffs and monoliths. This creates a unique, almost castle-like appearance, which is how it earned its name, meaning 'Goats' Castle'. The surrounding area is also rich in Mediterranean forests of holm oaks, pines, and some oak groves.

How long does it typically take to hike to the summit of Castell de Bocs (661 m)?

The duration of the hike to Castell de Bocs depends significantly on the starting point and the chosen route. A typical round trip from a nearby parking area, including the ascent and descent, can range from 2 to 4 hours, not including breaks. This estimate accounts for the moderate difficulty and the technical sections near the summit.

Are there any cafes, pubs, or accommodation options near Castell de Bocs (661 m)?

As Castell de Bocs is situated within the Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac Natural Park, immediate amenities like cafes, pubs, or dedicated accommodation are not directly at the trailhead. However, the nearby village of Rellinars, or larger towns in the Vallès Occidental region, would offer various services including restaurants, cafes, and lodging options. It's best to plan for refreshments and accommodation outside the immediate park area.

What is the best season to hike Castell de Bocs (661 m) to avoid crowds?

While the intro mentions drier periods are best for hiking due to the exposed sections, to avoid crowds, consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring and autumn) on weekdays. Summer weekends can be quite busy, and while winter offers unique beauty, the exposed sections can be more challenging if wet or icy. Early mornings are also generally less crowded.
