Vandring

Watts on one side, dykes on the other side, and salt marshes in between. They form the transition between sea and land. This habitat places special demands on plants and animals. It is only slightly above the mean high water level and is flooded with salt water 10 to 250 times a year. Salt marshes are formed because every flood lures suspended particles into the near-shore wadden. When the flow rests for a short time during the flood period, fine material sinks and gradually forms a silt layer.
