These altars are dedicated to the Madonna of Tindari, to whom a beautiful sanctuary is also dedicated which is located precisely in the Sicilian city of Tindari. The sanctuary is also known as the sanctuary of the Black Madonna, as it houses a statue of the Virgin carved in dark cedar wood.

Vandring

An interesting gateway along the ancient Castroreale-Mandanici cattle track where it overlaps with the Peloritani mountain range. The annual pilgrimages to the Sanctuary of Tindari, which are made in a variety of ways (on foot, by bike, on horseback), all pass through this gateway. Over the years, devout believers have erected votive icons, each representing their Ionian hometown, making the whole experience unique and a delight to see.
